"The Trunk Cover Paste Over"
  Yesterday and Today
This album has been the focus of controversy and collectables for years. This started out as a simple album released by Capitol Records in 1966. It has turned into a lot more.

This is the "Trunk Cover Paste Over"
This is what the public got to see in 1966. Only the first few edition of this album had the paste over. Later editions simply had it printed on the record cover.

A "Peeled " version of this is when someone peels off this paste over to show the "Butcher Cover" underneath. If you're smart and have a paste over DO NOT try to remove the paste over yourself. Have it done professionally or look up ways to do it that will not damage the Butcher Cover underneath.

This cover led to some Paul is Dead Rumors.

-----Paul is sitting inside a trunk representing a coffin.
-----The Butcher cover was recalled because it resembles too clocely the destruction of Paul's body in his fatal car crash.

The Butcher Cover
This is the original cover that was released for the album. It shows the Beatles dressed in white butchers coats and sitting with broken dolls and raw meat. It is said to have been given only to radio stations and record company persons.

Within a few days of its release, Capitol issued a letter to all the people who had the album telling them to give all copies back to Capitol immediately. After destroying some of the covers, Capitol realized that they could just paste a new picture over the top of this one and save themselves a lot of money.

This photo was taken as a joke to give the Beatles a break form all the recent publicity shots that they had been taking during a photo shoot for "Paperback Writer". The decision to use it as a cover photo was made by Capitol at a later date.

This cover lead to a lot of "Paul Is Dead" rumors also:

-----THe broken dolls and raw meat show that Paul died in a bad car accident.

-----The teeth on Paul's leg represent the teeth that got knocked out in the accident.

-----George is holding a doll's head next to Paul's to show that Paul was decapitated.
